"As no one else can know how we perceive, we are the best experts on ourselves." -Carl Rogers
Humanism was founded by Carl Rogers, his belief was that humans have one basic motive and that is to self actualize to ones fulfilled potential and achieve the highest level of “human- beingness”. He compares people to a flower by saying a flower will grow to its full potential if growing in the right conditions and say people will flourish and reach their potential if the environment is good enough. Rogers also believed every person could achieve their goal and he thought it was wrong if after you achieve your goal that it’s a completion of life’s journey. How I think this can compare to me is I would always think down on myself because I felt like I wasn't who I want to be. That's when I started to lose confidence and think down on myself all the time. It made it even worse when other people would start to say things about me because that affected how I thought about myself even more which was bad for my mental health. I'm still struggling on finding confidence and to feel better about myself but I am better than how I was before on thinking about myself. How that compares to humanism is I let the thought of my ideal image was never going to happen so I kept degrading myself and thinking bad about myself.
